Leadership Qualities - the Identifying Qualities of Effective Leadership
Leadership qualities are qualities that characterize powerful leadership.
Allow me to lay it out certainly.
For starters, powerful leaders are . . .
6. Good communicators (the plan clearly and effectively is communicated by them)
7. Fair and unprejudiced
8. Maximize the capacity of their people by empowering them
9. Encircle themselves with people brighter than they're
10. Do not care who takes the credit
11. Acknowledge that they are infallible and acknowledge errors when they make them
12. Have a burning urge to really make a difference . . . a positive difference
This list is by no means exhaustive. The truth is, I can go on and on.
What exactly are these four uncompromising qualities of direction that is efficient?
1. Surround yourself with people smarter than you
2. Admit mistakes when you make them. Take corrective actions, move on, and learn from themselves
3. Make the most of the capacity of your folks and
4. Be selfless. Serve your people as well as your organization. Abhor personal gain.
The urge for personal gain will colour your judgment and will lead you to the path of failure.
To exemplify, consider what occurred recently in the firm where I work.
As I write this, I work for a global beverage firm with origins in Britain. The cocoa established beverage drink of my company's has about 50% share of the country's total cocoa based beverage market. Clearly, it turned into a big business.
Some two years back, the finance manager as well as my institution's CEO were fired. Why?
Over statement of business accounts.
The firm was not doing nicely. Instead of telling his managers thus, the CEO . . . with the collaboration of the finance director . . . Controlled with the accounts to make the business look good and hence, retain his position as CEO. This scenario went on for around three successive years before external auditors discovered the fraud.
That episode resulted in a loss to the company of over $116 million U.S. dollars. And investors are told they shouldn't anticipate dividends for the next couple of years.
The CEO proved to be a young talented fellow who had been CEO of the business for more than a decade.
So, what went wrong? What took CEO down?
1. The desire for greater acclaim greater prominence, and private gain.
He refused to slow down production, when the market was not growing as fast as production was growing. The factories kept on producing at break neck speed on acquiring more warehouses to store what was produced that could not be accommodated by the market along with the firm kept)
3. He surrounded himself with 'yes men' - directors who were at his mercy . . . Directors who stood by and watched while shareholders' life investment went down the drain
Make no mistake about it.
No matter how great you currently are, regardless of how sensible you might be, regardless how many awards you have won, you will fail finally if you are not a selfless leader.
Recall all the leadership qualities discussed above. But no matter what you do, don't forget the four most significant leadership qualities.
You will be a great leader. Successful leadership is within your reach. It begins by understanding leadership qualities you want essential for successful direction.
